She holds an undergraduate teaching degree in Portuguese and English from the Fundação Educacional de Criciúma (1991), a master’s degree in Literature from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (1996) and a doctoral degree in Linguistics, Language and Literature from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (2001). She was awarded a Bolsa Recém-Doutor [scholarship for new doctoral degree holders] (PPGE/UFSC 2001-2004) and carried out postdoctoral research at the Universidade do Minho (2019). Prof. Debus is currently a professor at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarinha. She teaches in the Department of Teaching Methodology, in the Graduate Program in Education and in the Graduate Program in Translation Studies. She is the leader of the research group “LITERALISE: Grupo de pesquisa em literatura Infantil e juvenil e práticas de mediação literária” [Research group on children’s and young adult literature and literary reading mediation practices] at UFSC, a member of the research group “Produções Culturais para crianças” [Cultural Productions for children], coordinated by Professor Fernando Azevedo, from the Research Centre on Child Studies at the Universidade do Minho (Braga/Portugual), a member of the Red the Investigaciones Afrolatinoamericanas [Afro-Latin American Research Network] – RIALA, a member of the Rede de Pesquisadores sobre Leitura Literária e Arte Narrativa [Network of Literary Reading and Narrative Art Researchers – LLAN], coordinated by Professor Ilsa Vieira do Carmo Goulart at the Universidade Federal de Lavras, and a member of the Editorial Board of the UFSC School of Education Publication Center. Prof. Debus has published several books on children’s and young adult literature.
